Stick shift HMMWV? June,2012
As I understand it, you can buy old Humvees from the DLA or Ebay. I've always wondered, since people do modify automatics to become manuals, has anyone heard of this being done with an HMMWV? Google drew a complete blank with this one.

SMG - how to brace? June,2012
Hi,
Are there any general best-practices for bracing SMGs when firing? The reason I ask is that there seems to be a wide variety of options available, I figure they can't all be equal and so presumable some approaches are better than others in a given situation. Off the top of my head, I've seen:
Stock extended and braced against shoulder
Sometimes with foregrip (or strap)
No stock, weapon braced with foregrip onlyNo stock, weapon braced by holding magazineNo stock, weapon braced by holding barrel shroudWeapon pushed firmly forward so tight in sling (in combination with foregrip / magazine grip, seems to be referred to as "a British thing")No stock, pistol grip / stance
Logically, I would have thought that one hand on the front of the weapon, one hand on the grip and the stock braced against the shoulder would have offered the greatest recoil control but I imagine there's some interesting physics at play with #5. Are there any general rules or it simply preference or training?

Req: Rifle able to be converted from 7,62 to 5,56 June,2012
Basically what the title says. Are there any modern rifles that can be converted from 7,62x51 to 5,56x45?
I know that FN SCAR-H has something called "common receiver"(or will have in the future) and Beretta advertises it's ARX-160 as able to fire also the 7,62x39. But is there anything in production or and in use maybe?

Sri Lanka Military/LTTE Uniforms and gear June,2012
I apologize if this is a re-thread, but I was looking for a way to get a hold of some Sri Lanka Army/LTTE uniforms, patches, etc. How can one go about doing this? Is it legal to buy and sell these items? With the long running Civil War at an end, I would reckon that some of these items have become quite rare. I'm especially interested in Unit T-shirts from the Sri Lanka Army. Can anyone throw me a bone here?

Ghillie suit June,2012
Got slotted for Sniper School here in a little while.
Need to make a Ghillie suit.
I got a few ideas as to what I'm going to do.
Not sure about the base pattern, leaning towards multi-cam or ATACS FG.
This is for Benning (GA), summer time. Have not been there in a while, not exactly sure what vegetation is gonna be like.
Any ideas, pointers ?
Going to use older style Puss-pad (non-inflatable) for the bottom (chest - down).
Mosquito netting in the armpit areas for some airflow/ventilation.
Whatever else I come up with.

Question on 40mm Grenades June,2012
I've seen photos of 40mm grenade bandoliers and carriers like this soldier is wearing:
What caught my eye is that the bandolier is carried at dead center mass on the torso. Since center mass is the most likely place to be hit, doesn't this expose the 40mm grenades to the most likely area of getting hit? What my question is, is that if a 40mm grenade gets hit by a bullet/piece of shrapnel, etc. would it detonate?
I understand that 40mm grenades are armed in flight at a certain distance after being fired, but could an impact from a bullet cause them to prematurely detonate? Attached Thumbnails

companies renaming gear, multicam June,2012
Hey Lads and Gals,
Stumbled on this bad boy, needless to say, I personally am in possession of some of this kit that has been renamed.
Some companies, namely Platatac, have been renaming some Truspec Kit as their own, naughty naughty.
Perhaps it is a wider problem than originally perceived. Attached Thumbnails

1989 Gun ban June,2012
What is the purpose of the 1989 semiautomatic ban? Was it intended as a form of protectionism for domestic manufacturers, or is it typical knee jerk political nonsense? Why is it still in effect?
