This summer, I'll be taking a trip up to visit my uncle in Utah. He owns a large ranch, and he wants to take me Prairie Dog and ground squirrel hunting.
I've never been small game hunting, except for using a pellet rifle against field mice in my backyard, so I have very little experience in that subject. What I'm wondering is, what are the best calibers and ammunition to use against small game? And any tips for hunting them would be appreciated too!
Also, I've heard of explosive Rat shot ammo. Is it any good?
Prospective calibers: .17 AR, .22 LR, .22 WMR, .25 APC, FN 5.7x28, 9mm Para, .45 ACP, .44 Magnum, .223/5.56, and 6.8 SPC.
Don't want to use anything bigger than 6.8, because I think that's a waste against something so small.
