Hard to say when it will be or what it will consist of. Most extreme efforts have been Rep. McArthy's (D-NY) HB1022, which would have effected nearly everything, including 1903 Springfields, Ruger 10-22s, and spare parts. Other rediculous offensives have targeted ammunition, with the goal of banning everything that didn't have serial #s, to include reloading components. Most likely, future legislation would focus on 10+ capacity detachable magazines and rifles/pistols capable of accomodating them.
Past statements by our current President and Attorney General lead most in the shooting community to believe he'll go after guns if elected to a 2nd term. GOP challenger Mitt Romney has been no friend of teh 2nd Amendment in the past, but might offer some hope if he wins in November.
So, we've had plenty of time since the expiration of Bill Clinton's AWB to stock up on hi-cap magazines and get those rifles you've always wanted and are still somewhat-affordable.
I'm trying to have has many magazines as possible.
